New project space / art gallery in Cape Town. 17 November 2012
The Black Box is a project space dedicated to artists emerging through the various artist-producing channels, both formal and informal, with the intention to provide an environment where commercial potential is not the main guideline.
Whether they come from university or are self-taught and have been participating in community art projects only, it does not matter. If they show dedication and we like what they do, they will get an opportunity to show their work to a broader audience.
It will also provide a destination for art lovers who would like to see what is happening under the radar.
Our first exhibition will be with Alexandra Karakashian. Alexandra graduated from Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2011 and will embark on a Masters degree in 2013.
The exhibition (26 November 2012 - 12 December 2012) will be titled Passage and the paintings are a detail that form part of a larger ongoing project and practice, investigating the relationships between natural environments and the aesthetics of landscape painting through examination of process and uncertainty that exist within both the natural world and developments in painting.
Opening night: Monday 26 November 6 - 8pm Address: 52 Church Street Contact: Charl Bezuidenhout - firstname.lastname@example.org or 021 423 3075.
