Alexandra Karakashian was born in Johannesburg. She obtained her BA Fine Art from the Michaelis School of Fine Art where she graduated with the Judy Steinburg Painting Prize as well as the Simon Gerson Distinction Prize. Her work forms part of the permanent UCT Collection.
Alexandra has participated in a number of group shows, some including We/Edition at These Four Walls Gallery, Observatory (2010), Passing Through at R. Since graduating in 2011 she has been working in both Johannesburg and Cape Town in various independent projects.
The paintings included in Passage are a detail that form part of a larger ongoing project and practice, investigating the relationships between natural environments, and the aesthetics of landscape painting through examination of process and uncertainty that exist within both the natural world, and the developments in painting.
Alexandra will be doing her Masters degree in Fine Arts at the Univercity of Cape Town (Michaelis School of Fine Arts) starting 2013.
